I was introduced to Feldenkrais by a dear friend soon after my accident – I had never heard of it until then. I subsequently found a practitioner very close by called Alan Caig Wilson so gave it a shot. I found the sessions very interesting and gentle which was just what my body needed. Alan then selfishly moved back to Scotland so regular session are now difficult but he comes back to this area every 4-6 weeks and has agreed to do some classes and one to ones here at Lawford House. Here is a brief on Feldenkrais by Alan which explains simply what it is and what it can do for you.

The Feldenkrais Method® - Individual sessions and Classes

What is it?

The Feldenkrais Method® is a set of techniques of moving and thinking through which you learn more about your moving body and how it responds to the world you find yourself in. It helps you build new and positive experiences in your movement, which can help you overcome any difficulties and discomforts you might currently be facing. It can simply help you to access new possibilities in your moving self.

As human beings we have always learned by moving – all of our lives developing new skills and uses of our body. From the very beginning we are curious to see what we can do next. Everything from eyes to feet and everything between moves to help us understand our world. When there are blockages in our movement, we can often feel discomfort and pain. Or we have the feeling that we could do more, feel more free.

How does it work?

During classes I guide you with clear, uncomplicated instructions. You discover that your movement can be more free and extensive even though there is no stretching, no muscle-building and no 'high-impact' activity.

During individual sessions, I will gently manipulate your body to help you find greater freedom of movement. This alternative is more useful for dealing with issues that are more specific and that require special attention.

Each class or individual session is a movement journey of discovery. By the end of a session you will feel calmer, breathe more easily and feel more connected to your body. Over time the changes you experience will be more profound.

Feldenkrais® is about you becoming more resilient and resourceful. As you move more freely, you become more confident in your movement potential. You more develop new skills in dealing with the world that presents itself to you.

Cost of classes: £12 per session (60 mins)

Cost of individual sessions: £50 (45 – 60mins)
